Turbat, Balochistan, was rattled by a suicide attack on a police van, resulting in the martyrdom of one police official and injuries to two more.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Kech, Mohammad Baloch, reported that a female suicide attacker targeted a police van at Chakar Azam Chowk, causing casualties. Among the injured was a female officer.
Immediately after the incident, security forces and the bomb disposal squad were deployed to the site, and the area was cordoned off to facilitate further investigation.
Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo, the Chief Minister of Balochistan, expressed his deep regret and condemned the blast. He extended his condolences to the families of the martyred and injured officers. In a public statement, he asserted that acts of terrorism aim to intimidate security forces and halt the development process. However, he reassured that these intentions would not succeed and that the courage and determination of the security forces would remain unshaken.
In addressing the people of Makran, he expressed his confidence that they would thwart the destructive plans of those opposing development. He promised to continue the development process, ensuring the people’s welfare and eliminating the province’s backwardness.
Balochistan’s Interior Minister, Mir Ziaullah Langove, condemned the incident and demanded a comprehensive report. He praised the sacrifices of security officials and pledged to counter the plans of terrorists, which he claimed were orchestrated by “foreign forces.” The minister vowed that the fight against terrorism would continue until peace is fully restored in the region.
Historical Context of Violence in Turbat
It is worth noting that this is not the first time Turbat has faced such violence. In December of last year, an attack claimed the lives of four security personnel and injured one. Unknown militants had targeted a vehicle belonging to Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan (South) in the Dannuk Gogdan area of Turbat, leading to a heavy exchange of fire. The conflict resulted in four personnel, including a subedar, embracing martyrdom.
Moreover, Shari Baloch, the suicide bomber responsible for the April 2022 attack on Karachi University, was born in Turbat in 1991. The city’s history of violent acts further highlights the importance of restoring regional stability and peace.
