At least six police officers died, and 29 others sustained injuries in a suicide bombing at the Kabal police station in the Swat Valley on Monday.
Swat’s District Police Officer, Shafiullah Gandapur, confirmed the casualty count and identified the event as a “suicide bombing.”
Initial accounts suggested that the attack took place at 8:20 p.m. within the police station, which also housed the Counter Terrorism Department and a mosque, as described by a police official injured during the incident.
According to the official, all three buildings “collapsed” due to the explosion, followed by a fire.
Khan, the injured official, said he was in the kitchen with other officers when the blast shook the entire building, and he heard two separate explosions.
It was reported that multiple individuals were trapped under the debris while the injured were quickly transported to Sadu Sharif Teaching Hospital. In response, all nearby hospitals declared a state of emergency.
In a separate statement, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah strongly denounced the explosion. Radio Pakistan reported that he expressed grief over the lives lost in the incident. Sanaullah extended his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured.
“We will never forget the sacrifices of the martyrs for the security of the country and the nation,” he asserted, vowing to eliminate terrorism. The interior minister also called for a report on the incident.
