British-Pakistani Sufi Opera star Saira Peter was honoured with a special letter of appreciation from King Charles III for performing the British national anthem, ‘God Save the King,’ at King Charles’s coronation.
King Charles sent the letter, including his good wishes and sincere thanks for Peter’s contributions to public services. Accompanying the letter was a signed photo card from King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The UK government commissioned the recording at Hastings Town Hall in East Sussex. According to a news release, this rendition is utilized across the region for various official events, including citizenship ceremonies.
This is not the first time Peter has been honoured in this way. In 2018, she performed ‘God Save the Queen’ at the government’s request. She was the first Asian and the only Pakistani ever honoured with this request.
The late Queen had sent Peter a letter of thanks for her 2018 recording.
Saira Peter is the world’s first Sufi and Pakistan’s first opera singer to record the British national anthem. Through her unique and distinguished career, she continues to enhance Pakistan’s reputation on the global stage.
