Israel is preparing a “significant retaliation” in the coming days. This response follows Iran’s recent launch of nearly 200 ballistic missiles at Israel.
In an interview with the NDTV, Israeli Ambassador Reuven Azar outlined that Israel’s counteraction would be “structured, strategic, and pinpointed.” Targets may include Iran’s major oil facilities and power plants, potentially devastating its economy and infrastructure. Further strategic sites across Iran might also be targeted.
This escalation marks a severe uptick in tensions since last year’s Israel-Hamas conflict, pushing both nations toward a potentially more dangerous confrontation in West Asia.
Israel’s possible responses could range from airstrikes on strategic Iranian facilities to covert operations aimed at crippling Iran’s capabilities. Ambassador Azar emphasized the precision of the planned attacks.
Moreover, senior Israeli officials have suggested that targeted killings of extremist figures could be part of the strategy. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also hinted at broader ambitions, such as regime change, through a direct message to the Iranian people promising freedom soon.
Iran’s Reaction and Further Escalation
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reportedly the instigator of the missile attack, has relocated to a secure location. He continues to challenge Israel, planning to lead a large public prayer in Tehran, signalling defiance.
Netanyahu has labelled the missile strike a “big mistake,” promising that Iran will face the consequences of the Israeli Defense Forces, through spokesperson RAdm. Daniel Hagari has expressed readiness to respond “wherever, whenever, and however” necessary, guided by the Israeli government’s directives.
