On Thursday, a powerful explosion targeted the vehicle of Maulana Noorullah, a local leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), in South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, near Shahzad Madrassah in the Azam Warsak market, close to a police station.

According to police, the bomb was intended to harm Maulana Noorullah, who escaped unharmed. Security forces quickly secured the area and launched an investigation. No casualties were reported, and the blast caused no significant damage.

In a video released by JUI-F, Maulana Noorullah, accompanied by local leaders Maulana Ishaq and Amanullah, reassured supporters, stating, “We are safe. We seek peace and protection for religious institutions and all Muslims.”

This incident is a troubling trend targeting JUI-F leaders in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. On March 14, a mosque bombing in South Waziristan injured JUI-F district chief Abdullah Nadeem and three others during Friday prayers. Nadeem sustained serious injuries, while the others had minor wounds.

In Balochistan, attacks have been equally deadly. On April 25, a roadside improvised explosive device (IED) in Kalat’s Kapootu area killed JUI-F local leader Maulana Abdullah Nachari and two women, injuring five others. The group travelled in a pickup vehicle from Kalat when the blast occurred.

Another attack on March 2 in Khuzdar’s Zehri area claimed the lives of two JUI-F leaders, Wadera Ghulam Sarwar and Molvi Amanullah. Unknown assailants on motorcycles opened fire with automatic weapons, killing both leaders instantly. A security guard was also injured.

Authorities are investigating the South Waziristan explosion to determine the perpetrators and motives. The JUI-F has repeatedly called for peace and enhanced security for religious leaders and institutions amid rising violence.
