A devastating explosion rocked the Wana area of South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on April 28, 2025, killing at least seven people and injuring 16 near the office of an Aman (Peace) committee.
According to Deputy Commissioner Nasir Khan, the blast destroyed the committee’s office, a local hub for promoting peace in the volatile region.
Police and emergency services responded swiftly, transferring the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana for treatment. Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the explosion, with no group claiming responsibility as of yet. The incident underscores the persistent security challenges in Pakistan’s tribal districts, where peace efforts often face violent opposition.

The explosion follows a reported 42% surge in terror attacks across Pakistan in January 2025, with 74 militant incidents resulting in 91 deaths, including 35 security personnel and 20 civilians, according to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS). Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly its tribal districts, bore the brunt, recording 46 deaths in 19 attacks. Balochistan also faced 24 attacks, claiming 26 lives.
The tragic event highlights the ongoing struggle to maintain stability in Pakistan’s border regions amid rising militant activity.
