Sky Brown wins skateboarding world title after producing the top score in a rain-hit final in Sao Paulo on Monday, giving the British star another major career triumph.
The 17-year-old posted 88.16 points in her second run. Soon after, heavy rain disrupted the event, preventing most athletes from taking their third run.
That score proved enough. Because no rider could complete a stronger final effort, Brown secured gold and became a two-time world champion.
Brown handled the difficult conditions better than the rest of the field. Although the weather cut the final short, her second run still stood as the best performance of the competition.
Japan’s Cocona Hiraki finished second with 84.36 points. Minna Stess took bronze and matched her 2023 result with another podium finish.
Australia’s Arisa Trew, the 2024 Olympic gold medalist, placed fourth with 80.06 points. She did not win a medal, but her performance still drew attention from the crowd and officials.
After the event, Brown said she felt disappointed that officials could not complete the final. Even so, she stressed how high the standard had become and said she had to put down a big run to come out on top.
Brown also said winning on International Women’s Day meant a lot to her. At the same time, she pointed to bigger issues beyond sport and said she was praying for peace.
The result adds another major title to Brown’s career and underlines her ability to deliver under pressure, even when the weather turns a final into a test of nerve as much as skill.
