Pakistan’s health ministry confirmed the sixth case of mpox virus at Islamabad International Airport on Monday.
The patient, a 44-year-old who arrived from a Gulf country, was diagnosed by Border Health Services (BHS) during routine screening at the airport.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Sajid Shah, the patient is currently in isolation at Pims Hospital and remains in good health.
“The Ministry of Health is actively monitoring this system and implementing effective protection measures,” said Dr. Bharath.
Both federal and provincial governments are employing all necessary measures to address the mpox situation, he added.
Previously, the fifth case of mpox was detected in Peshawar on Wednesday. The 33-year-old patient had travelled from a Gulf country to Islamabad International Airport and Peshawar.

The four earlier mpox cases in Peshawar had all recovered by September 8. They were released from isolation after testing negative for the disease.
Last month, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the mpox outbreak a global public health emergency. This was due to the spread of the new Clade 1b variant, known for its ease of transmission through close contact.
The WHO has stated that the mpox outbreak is manageable and not comparable to Covid-19, thanks to existing knowledge about the virus and available control measures.
