At least six people were killed and nearly 70 wounded in rain-related incidents in Karachi on Sunday.
Two men were killed separately when walls of houses in Civil Lines and Manghopir fell on them. Two others were electrocuted in New Karachi and Gulshan-e-Maymar areas in separate incidents.
Five domestic flights were also delayed in the city, where 54mm rain was recorded. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rain in parts of the country over the next two to three days.
Downpours lashed several areas of the city including Liaquatabad, Saddar, Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Karachi Airport.
Amid strong winds, a new system of monsoon entered the city on Saturday afternoon and Pakistan Meteorological Department has stated that the latest rain spell would continue in Karachi until Monday.
Earlier, in rain-related incidents, at least two people died on Saturday. A woman died in Shah Faisal Colony after the roof of a house collapsed during heavy rainfall.
Major roads of Pakistan’s industrial hub including the famed Shahrah-e-Faisal were entirely submerged under rainwater, troubling locals and triggering a massive traffic jam.
Mentioning poor visibility reasons, flight operations were also put on hold at the city’s airport for a brief period during several arrivals were diverted to alternatives routes.
