Sindh has introduced mandatory third-party vehicle insurance rules, as the provincial government launched Pakistan’s first digital insurance monitoring system and required third-party coverage for all vehicles.
Officials said vehicles without insurance will not be registered, and the token tax will not be collected. The government has also made a valid insurance policy mandatory for transferring vehicle ownership.
A spokesperson for CM Murad said a new section has been added to the existing Sindh Motor Vehicle Ordinance 2025.
Under the announced mechanism, accident compensation has been introduced for victims and their families. The heirs of a person who dies in a traffic accident will receive Rs700,000, while Rs500,000 will be provided in cases of disability, according to the statement.

CM Murad described the initiative as a road-safety milestone aimed at protecting citizens, especially low-income families, by ensuring that victims receive immediate financial relief.
Officials said the new digital system is designed to be transparent and secure, aiming to eliminate fake insurance policies.
CM Murad directed the Excise and Taxation Department to strictly enforce the new rules. He also instructed authorities to launch a public awareness campaign so citizens understand the benefits and requirements of third-party insurance.
