In a significant move to enhance female mobility within the province, the Sindh government has announced a novel initiative to distribute free ‘pink scooters’ to women through a lottery system. During a press conference in Karachi, senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon revealed this empowerment scheme, emphasizing the government’s dedication to improving women’s access to independent transportation.
To qualify for the lottery, applicants must possess a valid driving licence. The drawing will be held publicly, ensuring transparency and equal opportunity for all participants.
This initiative builds on the province’s efforts from the previous year, which saw the ‘Pink Bus’ service launch dedicated to female passengers. Minister Memon also disclosed upcoming plans for a ‘pink taxi’ service staffed by women drivers, further broadening safe and accessible transportation options for women in Sindh.

Amid these initiatives, the Sindh government is also standardizing vehicle registrations under a unified system. This move comes in response to the growing concerns over road safety, highlighted by the increasing number of traffic-related fatalities and injuries in Karachi.
In light of recent traffic incidents, Minister Memon announced the formation of a committee to tackle road safety issues. Additionally, funds from auctioned vehicle number plates will support provincial government projects, streamlining vehicle registration processes across Sindh.
The press conference also served as a platform for Minister Memon to urge the federal government to fulfil previous commitments, including providing additional buses for Karachi, which were notably absent from the federal budget for 2025.
Further solidifying its commitment to provincial development, the Sindh cabinet has approved several significant projects. These include establishing the Dow Science Foundation and enhancing public transportation infrastructure with additional buses. The cabinet also greenlit the K-IV water project for Keenjhar Lake and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Line project, which are pivotal for improving the region’s infrastructure and quality of life.
