The Sindh government has announced the creation of a new patrol police force dedicated to enhancing road safety and reducing highway crime.
A meeting chaired by Sindh Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon involves deploying a specialized police force to major highways and roads that connect cities across the region.
The primary goal of this new patrol police force is to ensure the safety and security of travellers on Sindh’s highways. The force will be equipped with modern surveillance cameras and other essential equipment to prevent and investigate crimes effectively.
Additionally, the traffic police have recently decided to install cameras and trackers in dumpers to monitor their speed and enforce speed limits through challans for overspeeding.

DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah highlighted that digital monitoring is expected to reduce traffic accidents significantly. If successful, this system will initially target dumpers, with plans to extend it to other heavy vehicles. He has also mandated the installation of front and rear-view cameras in dumpers to facilitate fault determination in the event of accidents.
This initiative responds to a rising number of road accidents involving heavy vehicles. To enhance monitoring, trackers will be installed in all dumpers operating in Karachi. These trackers will allow the traffic police to monitor these vehicles from their control room.
During a meeting with the Dumpers Association, DIG Traffic secured an agreement to comply with these new safety regulations. The trackers will detect overspeeding, and traffic challans will be issued for violations exceeding the 60 km/hour speed limit. A digital monitoring system will also be established at the DIG Traffic office to oversee compliance and ensure effective implementation of these measures.
