Information minister Sindh, Sharjeel Memon Friday snubbed his federal counterpart for laying down his personal ‘diktats’ regarding the demotion of former head of Karachi police force, according to media report.
“The federal information minister better not meddle in provincial affairs”, Memon said reacting to the former’s statement.
Minister for Information, Broadcasting & National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid, had earlier expressed his regrets for Shahid Hayat’s removal as Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Karachi.
“Given the circumstances, Hayat should not have been dislodged from such an important position. I am requesting Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, to give Hayat’s case a serious second thought because he is a good cop”, he said.
Calling Rashid a case of ‘anxiety disorder’, Memon warned him to mind his own business.“Sindh government is alive to its responsibilities. It will not tolerate any interference from the federation in any of its matters”, said Memon.
He also made it clear that Hayat was removed on the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Four Additional Inspector Generals of Police (AIGPs), including Hayat, and six Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of Police were demoted from their posts by the government of Sindh on Thursday.
Also, a notification to this effect was issued with immediate effect following the Supreme Court’s May 9, 2014 order, which called for reversion of all officials on Own-Pay Scale (OPS) back to their original posts at the earliest.
Hayat was replaced by AIGP Traffic, Ghulam Qadir Thebo.
