On Friday, the Sindh High Court approved a petition challenging the Sindh Building Control Authority’s (SBCA) decision to seal former president Dr. Arif Alvi’s dental clinic located in a residential area. Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput, leading a two-judge bench, issued the ruling following a hearing with all parties involved.
Asim Mansoor Khan explained that the court had granted the request to unseal the clinic, with specific instructions to be detailed in a forthcoming order.
Dr. Alvi’s wife, Samina, and son, Awab, initiated the legal action against the SBCA, Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC), and other entities. They argued that their dental clinic, situated in the Sindhi Muslim Cooperative Housing Society (SMCHS), had been operational for over thirty years and had adhered to all relevant health, legal, and regulatory standards. Despite this compliance, the SBCA claimed it had sealed its clinic on October 3 without prior notice.
Furthermore, the petitioners noted that approximately an hour before the SBCA’s action, a team allegedly authorized by the SHCC had inspected the premises. Yet, shortly after that, the clinic was still sealed.
