The Sindh government on Tuesday approved a new grading framework for matriculation and intermediate examinations across all provincial education boards.
Sindh Universities and Boards Minister Ismail Rahoo said the province has replaced the traditional marks-based system with a modern grading model. He added that the reform follows policy decisions of the Inter-Board Coordination Commission.
Rahoo said the change aims to create uniform standards across education boards nationwide. He confirmed that authorities will introduce a GPA system once the grading framework is fully in place.
According to an official notification, Sindh approved the grading system after IBCC endorsed it during a meeting held in August last year. The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education had already announced a revised grading formula in October.
Under the federal schedule, the new system will apply from the First Annual Examinations 2026 for SSC-I and HSSC-I. It will extend to SSC-II and HSSC-II from the First Annual Examinations 2027.
The new policy will assess students through grades instead of numerical marks. A minimum score of 40% will be required to pass. Students scoring below this threshold will receive a ‘U’ grade, meaning ungraded.
Students who fail will remain eligible to reappear in examinations, subject to other prescribed conditions.
