The proposed levy at the rate of Rs0.5 per litre is expected to generate Rs244 million additional revenue for the provincial kitty in fiscal year 2014-15.
Sources said the new levy was proposed by the Excise and Taxation Department as presently no fee was being charged on storage of ethanol. The total quantity of the liquid cargo stored in the Keamari warehouses has been estimated at 448,281,060 litres.
The Excise and Taxation Department has also proposed introduction of infrastructure cess at the rate of 0.25pc on transportation of petroleum products through the province in the forthcoming budget.
