Despite the region’s ongoing challenges of poverty and unemployment, the Sindh government has approved the acquisition of hundreds of luxury vehicles for its Assistant and Deputy Commissioners across the province.
Media sources indicate that funds for this procurement have been earmarked in the current fiscal year’s budget, ensuring the purchase of new vehicles for these key administrative officials.
In detail, Assistant Commissioners working in urban sectors will be equipped with 1300 cc Toyota Yaris cars, while those in rural settings will receive Toyota Hilux Double Cabin Standard Editions. Deputy Commissioners stationed in various districts and sub-divisions can access even more premium vehicles.
Addressing concerns about this expenditure, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, the Provincial Minister for Planning and Development, justified the purchases. He stated that these vehicles are essential for the fulfilment of official duties and assured that the government has carefully planned this allocation within the budget, emphasizing that it does not constitute an unnecessary luxury expenditure but a necessary investment in efficient administration.
