The Sindh Education and Literacy Department has announced a province-wide holiday for all public and private educational institutions on February 4 to mark Shab-e-Barat.
A department notification said the steering committee’s sub-committee approved the decision during a meeting. Following that approval, all institutions under the department’s administrative control will remain closed on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
Shab-e-Barat will be observed on the night of February 3. The occasion falls on the 15th of Sha’ban in the Islamic calendar and holds deep religious significance for Muslims.

Many believers spend the night in prayer, repentance, and remembrance. Worshippers often visit mosques and shrines, which remain illuminated, and many people also visit graveyards to offer prayers for deceased relatives.
Mosques and religious centres typically host special gatherings during the night. These include Quranic recitations, sermons, and collective prayers that highlight the spiritual importance of the occasion.
Many Muslims also observe fasting the following day as an act of devotion. They seek spiritual purification, forgiveness, and blessings for the year ahead.
