Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the launch of an eco-friendly electric vehicle (EV) taxi service in Sindh, Pakistan, through a public-private partnership.
Sindh EV taxi initiative, featuring 100 EV taxis in its initial phase, includes a dedicated Pink Taxi service for women, promoting sustainability, safety, and empowerment.
The Sindh government aims to revolutionise transportation with EV taxis, aligning with global trends. In a post on X, Memon celebrated the launch as a “historic milestone,” crediting the Transport Department and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The service, comprising People’s Pink and Normal Taxis, prioritises eco-friendly travel and economic growth.

Each taxi will employ at least two drivers, creating significant job opportunities. The EV taxis will reduce carbon emissions, addressing environmental challenges in the region.
The EV Pink Taxi service is a standout feature, designed exclusively for women. Female drivers will operate these taxis, ensuring safe and comfortable travel for female passengers. This initiative underscores Sindh’s commitment to women’s empowerment and fostering independence and security in public transportation.
