As Pakistan gears up for the general elections on February 8, the academic sector is set to enjoy a coinciding nine-day hiatus, announced by the Sindh Education Department. From February 6 to February 9, this break encompasses all educational levels across private and public sectors.
This interval aligns with the electoral timetable and extends due to the observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day on February 5, followed by a weekend break on February 10 and 11.
Election Preparations and Security Measures
The closure comes as educational facilities transition into polling stations, a measure endorsed by Sindh’s Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Bakar to facilitate upcoming elections. This period will also see the conversion of institutions into secure voting venues.
To bolster security and ensure the integrity of the electoral process, installing CCTV cameras at critical locations has been advised. Similar holiday announcements were made in Islamabad and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, with Punjab’s Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi also declaring a province-wide four-day recess in educational institutions.

Classes are scheduled to resume their regular timings after the break, with institutions reopening on February 12.
