The Sindh Education Department has announced that the 2025 academic session will start on April 1, and the syllabus for the current session will be reduced by 25%.
Accordingly, the 2024 session’s annual exams for matric and intermediate, along with grades one through eight tests, will encompass only 75% of the syllabus.
The department has also rescheduled winter holidays from December 22 to December 31.
This change coincides with the shift of the academic session in Sindh from August 1 to April 1.
The department’s steering committee sub-committee decided on this and formally recorded the minutes on December 5.
Officials met in late November, including the Secretary of College Education, the Secretary of Universities and Boards, and other educational authorities.
According to the minutes, the change mandates a 75% syllabus reduction for all classes. The Directorate of Curriculum Assessment and Research (DCAAR) must send the revised syllabus to the School Education Department by December 15 and promptly inform students, boards, and stakeholders.
The committee noted that colleges will start the academic year on August 1, 2025. As universities offer scholarships in August, steps are underway to help students with admissions and protect their academic year.
Class 9 admissions for 2025 will run from March 1 to March 31, with classes starting on April 1. The central admission committee will manage first-year intermediate admissions beginning June 1. They expect to announce matric results by July 15 and intermediate results by August 15.
They will release results for classes 9 and 11 within 60 days of announcing them for classes 10 and 12. Summer holidays will last from June 1 to July 31, and winter holidays will continue from December 22 to December 31.
