Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited Imran Khan to discuss potential concerns on Wednesday. He was willing to resolve issues through dialogue in the National Assembly, emphasizing historical political solidarity despite criticism. Sharif reminisced about past electoral challenges and the harsh rhetoric that marred his initial parliamentary speech. He advocated for justice for all, regardless of status.
Sharif regretted the persistent hostility, noting past failed negotiation attempts and a lack of basic politeness. He referenced the harsh treatment of politicians, including Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah, during their incarcerations.
In retaliation, Opposition Leader Omar Ayub demanded freedom for PTI’s imprisoned members before considering dialogue. He detailed the harsh conditions PTI affiliates and Imran Khan faced, criticizing the government’s treatment of opposition members and claiming it hindered parliamentary proceedings.
Ayub conditioned reconciliation on the government’s acknowledgement and cessation of alleged abuses against prominent PTI figures. He contrasted the severe conditions faced by his colleagues with the preferential treatment reportedly afforded to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in prison.
