Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy made the nation proud once again as she won her second Oscar on Sunday.
However, as news of Sharmeen winning an Aceademy Award for her documentaryA Girl In The River: The Price Of Forgiveness spread, veteran director Syed Noor claimed the filmmaker had stolen his idea. Noor accused Sharmeen of stealing the concept of her documentary from his 2011 film,Price of Honour.
However, Sharmeen cleared the air regarding the plagiarism accusation by responding to a query made by an inquisitive fan on Twitter.
When asked: “How far the news of ‘stealing the idea with the same name too’ from a Pakistani movie for 2nd Oscars documentary are true?”
Sharmeen replied, “How does one steal the idea of a documentary from a fiction film? Pray enlighten me!”
Price of Honour is based on an impoverished girl who challenges the status quo for her basic rights whereas, Sharmeen’s documentary follows the story of an 18-year-old girl, a rare survivor of an honour killing attempt, who falls in love and lives to tell the tale.
But the Oscar winner pays no heed to such allegations, she’s busy reveling in her latest achievement. Upon her win, she took to social media to thank everyone for her big win at the 88th Annual Academy Awards.
But haters gonna hate!
