Sharjeel Memon, a leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has accused foreign entities, including an “Israeli lobby,” of supporting former Prime Minister Imran Khan. He claimed that the “Goldsmith group is actively supporting Khan internationally.” Memon highlighted the arrest of PPP leader Faryal Talpur during Khan’s tenure, expressing opposition to the detention of women under any circumstances.
Memon further alleged ties between Khan and his former family members, the Goldsmiths, suggesting these relationships support Dr. Israr Khan’s claims that “Imran Khan is an agent imposed by Israel.” He referenced Election Commission reports indicating Khan’s party received funding from India and Israel.
Additionally, Memon cited the late journalist Arshad Sharif’s reports on foreign funding to Khan’s party as proof of these international connections. “If Israel is disturbed by Khan’s arrest, it underscores his affiliations with them,” he asserted.
In the same briefing, Memon discussed the Yellow Line BRT project in Karachi, a $100 billion initiative funded by the World Bank. He announced plans for this transit solution to feature public-private partnerships and environmentally friendly electric buses along a 21-kilometre route. Memon mentioned ongoing discussions with the World Bank to integrate electric vehicle buses for this project.
The project will also include constructing a new bridge near Jam Sadiq Bridge. It is expected to be completed within 18 months, though Memon hopes for an earlier completion.
Furthermore, Memon revealed the PPP’s initiative to introduce double-decker and eco-friendly buses in Karachi, highlighting the party’s commitment to sustainable urban transport.
