Colombian singer Shakira, who relocated to Miami with her children in April 2023 following her separation from ex-Barcelona footballer Gerard Piqué, became the target of an alleged stalker.
Florida authorities arrested 56-year-old Daniel John Valtier on charges of stalking the singer. Valtier reportedly approached Shakira’s residence intending to enter, claiming to be in a relationship with her.
During the court hearing, Valtier persistently claimed that he was Shakira’s husband and communicated with her regularly. Initially, the judge set his bail at $50,000. However, due to Valtier’s adamant assertions about his relationship with the singer, the judge raised the bail amount to $100,000. A restraining order was also issued, prohibiting Valtier from contacting Shakira directly, indirectly, or via social media, except for court-required appearances.
Harassment Charges and Arrest Details
Valtier faces a harassment charge linked to his activities on social media, where he reportedly posted about Shakira, and for sending chocolates and wine to her home between late December and early 2024. According to the police report, these actions contributed to the harassment charges against him.
The arrest occurred on the afternoon of Monday, January 8. Authorities took action after observing Valtier arriving at Shakira’s home in a cab. This arrest highlights the ongoing concerns regarding the safety of public figures and the importance of legal measures to protect them from potential threats.
