The Sindh Police requested the provincial government to coordinate with Balochistan authorities to apprehend tribal leader Shahzain Marri.
The move follows the arrest of five of Marri’s guards last week, linked to a viral video showing them brutally attacking two men in Karachi’s Boat Basin area. Marri, a grandson of the late Baloch nationalist Nawab Khair Bux Marri, allegedly fled to Balochistan after the incident.
The case erupted after Barkat Ali Soomro, a Sindh People’s Youth Organisation member, filed an FIR at Boat Basin police station. On February 19 at 3 AM, Soomro and his friend Waqas Ahmed were driving when a Surf jeep rammed their Alto car on a service road.
According to South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Asad Raza’s letter, five or six armed men—later identified as Marri’s guards—emerged, intoxicated, and assaulted the pair with pistol butts, injuring Soomro. The video evidence, which spread online, fueled public outrage.

South Zone police initially claimed seven arrests but later confirmed five guards in custody. DIG Raza identified Shahzain Marri as the prime suspect, noting his guards acted under his command. Sindh Inspector General (IG) Ghulam Nabi Memon escalated the matter on Monday, writing to the provincial home secretary to request Balochistan’s aid in capturing Marri and another suspect, Ghulam Qadir, traced to the neighboring province.

DIG Raza’s February 28 letter to IG Memon, reviewed by Dawn.com, detailed the arrests and urged cross-provincial cooperation. “Modern weapons” seized from the guards are under scrutiny for licensing, Raza added, with operations ongoing to nab others involved. The FIR paints a grim picture: armed suspects threatening “dire consequences” while beating their victims.
