A surprising twist has resolved the Shahzain Marri assault case in Karachi. Victim Barkat Soomro announced he forgave Shahzain Marri and his guards for their February 19 attack near Boat Basin, opting for reconciliation over retribution “for the sake of Allah.”
The incident, captured on viral video, showed Marri’s armed guards attacking Soomro and his friend Waqas Ahmed after a vehicle collision. Seven guards faced arrest, with weapons seized, but Marri fled to Quetta. Soomro thanked local media for spotlighting the Shahzain Marri assault case, which spurred police action.
Mediation by political heavyweights—Mir Nadir Magsi, Nawab Gazain Marri, Saeed Ghani, and Nasir Hussain Shah—brought the parties together. Soomro’s family elders negotiated with the accused, who admitted fault and offered compensation. Soomro declined the payment and chose forgiveness instead.

South Police learned of the settlement via media but await legal confirmation. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Asad Raza confirmed arrests of guards Ghaus Bakhsh, Jalad Khan, Ali Zain, Hassan, and others—Marri’s bodyguards. Authorities stress that if Marri returns to Karachi, arrest and court proceedings will follow.
The Shahzain Marri assault case gripped public attention after the brutal footage surfaced, highlighting impunity in affluent areas. Soomro’s pardon shifts the narrative to reconciliation, leaving some to wonder: will justice or mercy define this story’s end?
