An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore granted bail to Shahrez Khan, nephew of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently in jail. The case claims that Shahrez was involved in the May 9, 2023 riots after Imran Khan’s arrest. These events led to protests and property damage across Pakistan.
ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill reviewed Shahrez’s bail request and ordered his release, requiring a Rs100,000 surety bond. Shahrez was arrested on August 21, 2025, and held for 14 days from August 30, 2025. His lawyer, Advocate Rana Mudassar, along with PTI lawyer Taimur Malik, confirmed the court’s decision.
Shahrez Khan Sent to Judicial Remand in Jinnah House Attack Case
On May 9, 2023, PTI supporters protested Imran Khan’s arrest. They damaged military and government buildings, including Jinnah House in Lahore. Shahrez was accused of encouraging violence, but his lawyers said there was no proof. They pointed out that Shahrez was not in Lahore during the riots.
Groups like Amnesty International and the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan criticized Shahrez’s arrest, calling it political. His wife showed photos proving he was in Chitral from May 6 to May 12, 2023.
The bail order is important for PTI as it continues to deal with court cases. It also raises questions about fair trials and political tension in Pakistan.
