Shahid Kapoor’s arranged marriage to Mira Rajput in 2015 surprised the industry. However, a decade later, the couple remains one of Bollywood’s most beloved pairs.
Before meeting Mira, Shahid was not a fan of arranged marriages. “I never thought this would happen. I used to tell my friends, ‘How can anyone have an arranged marriage? It’s so strange,'” he recalled in a recent media interaction.
Shahid also reflected on his role in Sooraj Barjatya’s Vivah, where he played the lead. “Vivah was my practice session. The same thing happened in my life. I used to find some scenes funny – like when she brings tea but calls it ‘jal’ (water). I said to Sooraj ji, ‘What is jal?’ He replied, ‘Just do it; you don’t know how people function in the interiors of India.'”
So, after 10 years of marital bliss, how does Shahid feel about arranged marriages now?
“I endorse arranged marriages. It worked really well for me and Mira. I never thought I would be in one when I was younger,” Shahid shared.
Shahid is preparing for the January 31 release of his new cop thriller, Deva. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, the film features key performances by Pooja Hegde, Pavail Gulati, and Kubbra Sait.
