The session of the National Assembly concluded under contentious circumstances yesterday and continued to be disrupted by chaos today.
On Tuesday, Shahid Khattak from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Shagufta Jumani, a prominent Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) member, exchanged heated words.
The altercation intensified when Jumani threw headphones at Khattak, though they did not hit him. During the confrontation, Jumani pointedly asked Khattak about his background and mentioned knowing his “Gogi,” indicating a personal familiarity that fueled her anger.
Ali Mohammad Khan stepped in to defuse the escalating tension between the two lawmakers. In response to the incident, Khattak remarked, “She is a woman, and I do not wish to reply in this manner. It’s not my upbringing to respond to women like this,” highlighting his reluctance to engage in a verbal dispute with Jumani.
The Deputy Speaker, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, intervened, stressing that such behaviour was inappropriate for the decorum of the National Assembly. He urged the members to maintain a level of conduct befitting their roles and the legislative environment.
