On Monday, an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Sambaza sector of Balochistan’s Zhob district, near the Pak-Afghan border, resulted in the elimination of seven terrorists. This operation was conducted by the Pakistani army and reported by the army’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Details of the Operation and Ongoing Efforts
The ISPR stated that army troops engaged and successfully neutralized fleeing terrorists in a firefight. These militants were involved in numerous terrorist activities, including attacks on security forces and the killing of innocent civilians. Arms, ammunition, and explosives were recovered from the site. A sanitization operation is ongoing in the area to ensure all remaining terrorists are apprehended. The Pakistani security forces remain committed to eradicating the threat of terrorism.
This operation is part of a broader context of escalating terror activities in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan. The upsurge in violence follows the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s termination of its ceasefire with the government in November 2022. A report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies highlighted that 2023 saw 1,524 fatalities and 1,463 injuries from 789 terror attacks and counter-terror operations in Pakistan, marking the highest in six years.
