Red Bull Racing has announced that Sergio Perez will leave the team following a tough 2024 Formula 1 season.
The Mexican driver, affectionately known as Checo, joined the team in 2021 and played a pivotal role in securing two constructors’ championships and a historic one-two finish in the drivers’ standings alongside Max Verstappen in 2023.
During his four-year stint with Red Bull, Perez claimed five Grand Prix victories, including notable wins at the Monaco Grand Prix and two in Azerbaijan. “Checo has been an extraordinary team player from the start, significantly contributing to our team’s successes,” remarked Christian Horner, Red Bull Team Principal.
Perez’s Tough Season
Despite these achievements, Perez faced difficulties in 2024, finishing eighth in the drivers’ standings and witnessing Red Bull lose their team title to McLaren. This dip in form fueled speculation about his future with the team, culminating in his departure announcement. “I’m incredibly grateful for the past four years with Oracle Red Bull Racing,” said Perez. “It has been an honor to race alongside Max and to share in our success.”

With the 2025 season on the horizon, Red Bull focuses on finding a replacement for Perez. Liam Lawson, a rising star from New Zealand, is considered the leading candidate for Perez’s position. The team will reveal their full lineup for 2025 shortly, leaving fans and analysts excited for more information.

While Perez plans his next steps, he leaves a legacy of teamwork and triumph at Red Bull. “Checo will always be a popular member and a treasured part of our history. As the team looks to the future, the announcements are expected to shed light on the new dynamics within Red Bull Racing as they aim to reclaim their top form in the forthcoming seasons.
