On Wednesday, the special court, instituted under the provisions of the Official Secrets Act, prolonged the judicial custody of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan and his deputy, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, until September 26, in relation to the ongoing cipher case.
Since his August 5 conviction in the Toshakhana case, where he failed to adequately report gifts received during his tenure, Khan has been confined in jail. Although the Islamabad High Court nullified a previous ruling that sentenced him to a three-year prison term along with a Rs100,000 fine — a verdict that barred him from participating in the forthcoming elections — Khan continues to be held in custody due to the pending cipher case.In the recent development, the FIA apprehended the former premier last month in connection with the cipher case, charging him as per the stipulations of the Official Secrets Act.
