In a detailed operation on Tuesday in Mardan’s Katlang area, a high-ranking police officer lost his life, and three, including a DSP, sustained injuries. This incident occurred during a targeted action against two prominent TTP commanders, resulting in their neutralization.
The confrontation claimed the life of SP Ijaz Khan and left DSP Naseem Khan among the wounded. The operation successfully targeted Hasan Qadeer Yousafzai, known as Mohsin Qadeer, and his accomplice Abbas, alias Essa, both significant figures within the TTP Haris faction since 2011, previously linked to TTP Swat.
These militants, notably involved in attacks and supporting insurgent activities, had relocated to Swat under the previous government, marking them as high-value targets for security operations. The engagement initiated by the terrorists at 3:30 am was promptly responded to, necessitating immediate medical attention for the casualties at MMC and another local facility.
The community and officials, including DIG Sulaiman Khan and Commissioner Shaukat Khan Yousafzai, honoured SP Ijaz’s service and sacrifice in a ceremony at Police Line Mardan, preceding his burial in Sherpao, his hometown.
