The United States condemned  assassination attempt on Vice-principal Debra Lobo of Jinnah Medical College, Karachi, who is also  US citizen in Karachi

The US State Department spokesperson Marie Harf said while briefing the newsmen in Washington on Thursday said its consulate general in Karachi is in close contact with Pakistani authorities in this connection.

The US officials in Karachi are working to obtain more information regarding the serious assault on Debra Lobo, 55 in Pakistan’s largest city.

In question and answer session, replying a question regarding the telephonic conversation between US Secretary John Kerry and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Herf said the two leaders brought an array of issues including Yemen situation under discussion.

She said Kerry also voiced concerns over the release of alleged Mumbai attack planner, Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi on bail.

The spokesperson said, “The Secretary expressed concern that the perpetrators of the 2008 Mumbai attack be brought to justice. He noted that 166 innocent people were killed in the attack, including, of course, six Americans. The Secretary also noted the need to keep known terrorists behind bars and to expedite justice for the victims of the family.”

Answering a question regarding the US position if Pakistan sends troops to Yemen or not, the US spokesperson asserted it is wholly up to the country whether it participates in the ongoing Saudi-led campaign against Yemen that Riyadh says meant to tamp down the Houthi insurgency.

She said, “The two leaders also spoke about the need to bring the conflict in Yemen to an end through a sustainable political resolution and a political transition.”
