In the Senate, Senator Faisal Vawda has filed a privilege motion against Supreme Court Justice Athar Minallah.
Detailing the events, Vawda expressed during the Senate session that he stands by every word of a press conference he held. He claimed to have united Parliament and the nation on the issue of the supremacy of the Constitution and the law.
Vawda argued that discussing judicial misconduct is his right and that if pointing out flaws is a crime in Pakistan, he is willing to face the consequences and will continue highlighting these issues.
Vawda criticized the judiciary for not acting against judges’ mistakes and questioned past judicial decisions, including the one that executed Bhutto. He also mentioned how these judges had previously ousted Nawaz Sharif, labelling him the Sicilian Mafia, which he sees as disregarding the public mandate. Vawda claimed that questioning the judiciary results in charges of contempt of court, while mistakes by judges are often dismissed as mere mishaps.
He criticized the immunity enjoyed by certain political figures against social media backlash. He noted that he was charged with contempt for questioning the appointment of dual-nationality judge Babar Sattar.
Asserting his integrity, Vawda announced his intention to submit a privilege motion against Justice Athar Minallah, stating he faces contempt for a court case before a chief justice he considers honest.
