The Kiwis defeated Pakistan by 22 runs in Mohali earlier yesterday to qualify for the semi-finals of the World Twenty20 tournament.
Electing to bat, New Zealand rode on Martin Guptill’s 48-ball 80 to post 180 for five before restricting Pakistan to 158 for five in their 20 overs.
The win saw New Zealand move to the top of the Group B table with three wins from as many matches while Pakistan’s chances of advancing further dimmed after two straight losses.
Earlier, Martin Guptill struck 48-ball 80 as New Zealand posted 180/5 in 20 overs.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, New Zealand got off to a flyer with Guptill doing the most damage.
He whacked 10 fours and three 6s in his 80 before being bowled by Muhammad Sami. Ross Taylor’s came of 34 runs then lifted New Zealand to 180/5.
Sami was pick of the bowlers from Pakistan bagging two wickets for 23 runs in his quota of four overs.
