Selma Blair has issued an apology for an Islamophobic remark she posted on social media, committing to better understanding and promising greater sensitivity towards the Muslim Community.
The context involves Blair becoming a topic of widespread discussion last week, receiving substantial criticism for her comment on an Instagram post regarding Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Cori Bush’s votes against a measure to prohibit Hamas terrorists from immigrating to the U.S.
Blair’s comment, which she later removed, suggested, “Deport all these terrorist-supporting goons. Islam has destroyed Muslim countries, and then they come here and destroy minds. They know they are liars. Twisted justifications. May they meet their fate.”
Selma Blair’s statement led to a significant backlash, with many labelling her actions as those of an Islamophobic bigot.
In a public apology posted on Instagram on Tuesday, Blair expressed, “I mistakenly and inadvertently conflated Muslims with Radical Islamists and fundamentalists, acknowledging a grave mistake in my words, which caused harm to numerous individuals I never intended to affect. I deeply regret this.”
She mentioned removing her initial comment upon realizing its potential to spread hate and misinformation and acknowledged her understanding of the distress it caused within the Muslim community.
