Selena Gomez has expressed frustration over being pitied for her fertility issues, emphatically stating during a ‘Women in Film’ event that those who view her as a victim can “f*ck off.”
The singer and actress posted a video on her X account where she celebrated her capacity for vulnerability, following insensitive reactions to her disclosure that she cannot have children due to complex health issues.
In the video, Gomez emphasized the importance of asking for help when needed, asserting that seeking support is not a sign of weakness. She also encouraged her sister, Gracie, and other attendees at the event to maintain their self-worth in the face of external judgments.
Earlier in the month, Gomez discussed with Vanity Fair her thoughts on motherhood, considering adoption or surrogacy as viable options due to medical conditions that endanger her and a potential baby’s life. She shared her grief over this realization, which diverged from her initial expectations of motherhood. Despite these challenges, Gomez revealed she has come to terms with her situation and feels fulfilled, particularly in her relationship with producer Benny Blanco.
Moreover, Gomez has been open about her struggles with lupus and her mental health, having been diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2020. She described feeling relieved after her diagnosis, as it helped lift a significant burden.
