The day before, terrorists wearing suicide vests armed with automatic weapons and grenades attacked the Karachi Police Office. Four people were killed, including two police officers and a Sindh Rangers soldier, and sixteen others were injured.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack that occurred between 7 and 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Under cover of indiscriminate fire, the attackers first made their way into a mosque near the KPO.
As soon as the incident was reported, police, Rangers, members of the Special Security Unit, officers from other agencies, and trained commandos arrived. As a result, Sarah-e-Faisal was closed to traffic, and the electricity supply to the region was also cut off.
During the initial operation, a terrorist wearing a suicide vest detonated himself on the fourth floor of the building. The police and Rangers commandos then began searching the upper floors of the building.
At that time, heavy gunfire and loud explosions emanated from within the compound, filling the area with noise. The terrorists eventually reached the roof of the building, barricading themselves until the Rangers and police commandos killed them following a fierce gun battle.
According to the spokesperson for the Sindh government, Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui, “four people were killed in the attack, including two police officers, one Ranger, and one sanitation worker.” The three terrorists had been eliminated, he continued, signifying the conclusion of the operation.
