The Supreme Court earlier today gave 11 more days to the federal government for appointment of a Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
During hearing of a case pertaining to the appointment, the federal government pleaded with the court for more time to name the CEC.
Attorney General, Salman Aslam Butt, appraised the court that the government had finalized three names after consultation with the opposition a couple of days ago; however, Justice (rtd) Rana Bhagwandas and Justice (rtd) Tasadduq Hussain Jilani excused themselves from accepting the post.
The Attorney General appealed the court to grant more time in this regard.
At which, the three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice, Justice Nasirul Mulk, granted 11 more days to the government and set Nov 24 deadline for appointment of the top election commission slot.
