The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced to release fresh currency notes of Rs 130 billion a bid to facilitate general public during Eid-ul-Fitr holidays,

Spokesperson of the central bank said, SBP has issued instructions to all commercial banks in the country, asking them to ensure that civilians get new currency notes through Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).

Federal Finance Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar has already asked SBP to ensure 24-hour operation of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) service by the banks for facilitating general public during Eid holidays.

Official sources said, in view of the extended Eid holidays, ATM sites of commercial banks would be examined by SBP’s inspectors and verification teams of Banking Service Corporation (BSC) field offices from July 1 till July 10.

Banks have also been advised to inform SBP BSC Field Offices, in advance, about any extra cash if they need for Eid holidays.

Ensuring an uninterrupted ATM service during Eid, banks have also been asked to continue Point of Sale (POS) and Alternate Delivery Channels (ADC) services.

Dedicated teams should be available for timely resolution of ATM-related issues, SBP said and added that banks’ Helpline numbers should be displayed on ATM vestibules and advertised in print media for general public.

Customer service operations would continue 24/7 for addressing customer complaints, while banks would remain open on July 2 and July 9, confirmed SBP.

Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to commence on July 6 in Pakistan according to the country’s meteorological department.
