The Saudi Fund for Development has committed $101 million to a hydropower project in Azad Jammu and Kashmir to contribute 70 megawatts of electricity to Pakistan’s national grid.
The initiative aligns with the Special Investment Facilitation Council’s Clean and Green Energy mission, which aims to enhance sustainable energy production, focusing on hydro and solar power.
A U.S. company has installed a GW3 solar panel plant in Karachi in a related development. This facility will support the local manufacture of solar panels and electric vehicles.
It’s important to note that the federal government has established the Cabinet Committee on Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). This committee is tasked with ensuring the implementation of SIFC’s recommendations.
According to a recent notification, the committee must present its decisions to the federal cabinet for approval.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chairs the committee. The army chief, chief ministers, and the national coordinator participate in meetings by special invitation.
