Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has introduced an important concession for migrant workers who have fled their sponsors.
The ministry has allocated a 60-day window for these workers to update their residency status on the Qiwa online after they leave their jobs.
Migrants without current sponsors are granted permission to secure new employment from December 1, 2024, to January 29, 2025. This initiative specifically targets workers dissatisfied with their current sponsors, offering them the chance to find new employment.
The Qiwa platform aims to help foreign workers update their personal information and access new job opportunities. This initiative is part of the Saudi government’s broader effort to foster a supportive and stable environment while safeguarding the rights of both employers and employees.

In a recent announcement, the ministry detailed the services available for foreign workers on the Qiwa platform, including the ability to obtain a salary certificate. This certificate provides details of the worker’s current employment and can be instrumental when applying for new jobs.
These enhancements to the Qiwa platform are designed to simplify workers’ transition to new job opportunities. Workers participating in the initiative will receive text messages with guidance on updating their employment details properly.
These measures are expected to significantly improve the job prospects for migrant workers in Saudi Arabia and alleviate some of their challenges.
