Pakistani-American politician Saud Anwar has secured a fourth consecutive term as a senator in Connecticut, strengthening his role in the state’s political landscape.
In the recent election, the Democrat amassed 27,359 votes, easily outpacing his Republican challenger, Matt Sierakowski, who garnered 15,057 votes.
Anwar, representing Connecticut’s 3rd District, initially captured his Senate seat in a special election in March 2019. He has since won re-election every following cycle, with his 2024 victory marking another milestone in his political career.
Anwar’s electoral success continued with his unopposed victory in 2020, 35,263 votes, followed by a win over Matt Harper in 2022, 18,968 votes, indicating his expanding support base.
Holding a Master’s degree in Public Health from Yale University, Anwar is lauded for his significant healthcare contributions, notably during the COVID-19 pandemic. He developed low-cost, easy-to-assemble ventilators that were crucial in saving lives. His efforts have established him as a prominent figure in healthcare reform, particularly during critical times.
Anwar has also served as the Commissioner for Asian-Pacific American Affairs and as Mayor of South Windsor. He was a consultant for the FBI’s Multicultural Advisory Committee, focusing on enhancing diversity and inclusion within law enforcement.
In related news, two Pakistani-American Democrats, Salman Bhojani and Suleman Lalani, have won their second consecutive terms in the Texas State House elections.

Bhojani, who first won his seat in 2022, has been active in addressing healthcare, education, and business development and championing immigrant rights. His reelection is a significant step for South Asian American political representation.
Lalani defended his seat in the Texas State Assembly with 56.1% of the vote, securing 32,141 votes against Republican Lee Simmons, who received 43.9% with 25,197 votes.
