On Friday, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), officially became the Governor of Punjab. The inauguration took place in Lahore.
The oath was administered by Shahzad Ahmad Khan, Chief Justice of Lahore High Court (LHC). Notable figures attended the event, including PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and former Punjab Governor Baligh Ur Rehman.
During the oath-taking, Maryam was positioned on stage, with Bilawal in front of it. Post-ceremony, PPP supporters vocally expressed their support, chanting’ Long live Bhutto,’ while some breached security and ascended the stage.
Initially planned for Sunday, the ceremony was postponed for reasons cited as ‘unavoidable.’
Previously, the President appointed the governors based on advice from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which aligned with Constitutional Articles 48(1) and 101.
The governor’s selections were confirmed during a meeting between the Prime Minister and the PPP chairman at the PM’s house.
