Samsung Galaxy S26 Series Leaks Reveal Major Camera Upgrades and Model Changes

Recent leaks suggest that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 series will experience major structural changes and has cancelled one anticipated model while reintroducing another in its flagship lineup.

Detailed firmware analysis confirms important specifications for the rebranded series. Industry reports suggest Samsung might maintain a late January 2026 unveiling schedule despite these changes.

Samsung has abandoned initial plans for a Galaxy S26 Edge model. The decision follows historically poor sales of slim smartphone models across the industry. The company will instead release a Galaxy S26 Plus as part of its restructured lineup. This model previously appeared in databases under model number SM-S947.

The base model, initially referred to as the S26 Pro, will now launch simply as the Galaxy S26. This restructuring signals Samsung’s strategic move away from ultra-thin smartphone designs.

Camera System Enhancements

Both Galaxy S26 and S26 Plus models will feature a consistent triple camera configuration. The system features a 50-megapixel main sensor, complemented by two 12-megapixel secondary sensors.

The telephoto camera receives a meaningful upgrade to a 12-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL S5K3LD sensor. This represents an improvement over the 10-megapixel sensor used in previous models.

However, Samsung will retain the older 12-megapixel Sony IMX564 sensor for ultra-wide photography. This decision represents a missed opportunity for more substantial hardware advancement.

Performance and Battery Specifications

The global versions of Galaxy S26 and S26 Plus will feature the new Exynos 2600 System-on-Chip. This processor enables Advanced Professional Video codec support for 4K 60FPS recording.

Samsung continues its dual-chipset strategy with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processors for key markets like the United States. Both models will maintain substantial battery capacities despite slim designs. The standard Galaxy S26 includes a 4,300 mAh battery, while the Plus model features a 4,900 mAh power unit. These capacities should provide strong battery life for daily use.

Galaxy S26 Ultra Refinements

The premium S26 Ultra model shows measured improvements in its design and capabilities. The device will feature slightly larger dimensions while maintaining a flat display design.

A significant upgrade comes in the form of 24-megapixel default photography. This addresses long-standing user requests for higher resolution default images compared to the current 12-megapixel standard.

Camera hardware updates include a new 12-megapixel 3x telephoto lens and larger apertures for main and periscope cameras. These improvements result in a more prominent camera bump on the device.

The S26 Ultra will exclusively use Snapdragon processors worldwide and maintain a 5,000 mAh battery with 60W charging capability. This unified chipset approach should ensure consistent performance across all markets.

The leaked specifications suggest Samsung is focusing on meaningful improvements rather than revolutionary changes. The company appears positioned to deliver refined flagship smartphones that address specific user feedback while maintaining its competitive market position
