Samsung Electronics unveiled its slimmest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S25 Edge, on May 13, 2025. With a 5.8mm ultra-thin design and advanced AI features, Samsung aims to outpace Apple in the premium market.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is scheduled for release in South Korea on May 23 and in the U.S. on May 30. The $1,099 device aims at younger consumers who seek portability without sacrificing performance, positioning Samsung to compete with Apple’s expected thinner iPhone later this year.

Ultra-Slim Design and AI Innovation

The Galaxy S25 Edge, boasting a 6.7-inch display, is Samsung’s thinnest flagship yet, achieved by reducing internal components like the printed circuit board and thermal systems. Executive Vice President Moon Sung-hoon addressed overheating concerns, highlighting an optimised, thinner vapour chamber.

The device introduces multimodal AI, enabling real-time voice and vision interactions, enhancing the user experience. X posts from tech enthusiasts praised the sleek design, with some speculating it could sway iPhone loyalists.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, at 5.8mm thick, launches May 23 with multimodal AI and is priced at $1,099. According to Samsung, it targets Apple’s market.

Samsung’s launch, timed months before Apple’s expected slim iPhone, aims to capture consumer interest in thinner smartphones.

As NH Investment & Securities analyst Ryu Young-ho noted, “Samsung could attract consumers looking for thinner devices.” Rolling out in 30 countries, including China and Europe, the S25 Edge leverages Samsung’s 20% global market lead in Q1 2025 over Apple’s 19%, per Counterpoint Research. However, Q2 shipment risks loom due to global tariff uncertainties.

The S25 Edge’s release strengthens Samsung’s position in the high-end smartphone race, capitalising on demand for portability and AI-driven features. The company’s focus on younger consumers aligns with market trends, though analysts warn of potential supply chain challenges.
