Born October 2, 1938, in Sialkot, Mir earned his education at the University of the Punjab, Lahore. He served as a senator on the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ticket from 1994 to 2000 and continuously from 2003 to 2025. As chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Mir championed progressive policies.
