The injury occurred in the first session on day one at Newlands, Cape Town. While fielding in the seventh over, after Mohammad Abbas’s delivery was hit to third-wicket territory, Ayub tripped and fell awkwardly while acting as a relay fielder, twisting his ankle.
The 22-year-old was visibly in pain and had to be assisted off the field for medical attention.
Ayub is undergoing further medical assessments at a nearby hospital to evaluate his sprained right ankle.
